SoniClear 5.1 Release

2/10/06 - SoniClear Release 5.1 is now available. The new software release expands the features of the existing SoniClear products, and replaces RecorderPro with the new SalesVoice software.

All SoniClear products have been updated with new features. Release 5.1 introduces the new Floating License System for flexible installation of the software. The new Conference mode provides for recording directly to space-efficient MP3 format. MP3 files can be opened and played directly, eliminating the need to import the files into WAV format.

New Features for All SoniClear Products

All of the SoniClear 5.1 products include these improvements:

  • Record directly into MP3 using the new CF3 file format. Audio and annotations are stored together in a single file.
  • CF3 files can be linked into other programs, such as contact managers, and played back in SoniClear by simply opening the file.
  • Play back MP3 files natively (no need to convert to WAV first).
  • Automated annotation that detects and marks silence during meetings for faster review.
  • Support for the Phoenix Audio Duet USB Speakerphone. This makes it easy to record phone conversations while using the speakerphone and headset features of the Duet device.
  • Online software updating, including the option to check for updates on the SoniClear website.
  • New Floating License System for managing licenses.

New Features in Gov Archiver and Gov Webcaster
SoniClear Gov Archiver and Gov Webcaster now produce archive recordings that conform to Section 508 requirements for accessibility. These two products also include the Meeting 2-Channel recording mode, previously only available in ClearScribe. With 2-Channel recording, a second channel can be used to capture audience participation, while keeping the main participants on a primary channel that does not have the audience background noise.

New Feature in Enterprise
SoniClear Enterprise now includes the ability to export Archive-format CDs. This is especially useful for duplicating long meetings on a single CD, with all of the notes shown in the included SoniClear player program.

SoniClear SalesVoice
SoniClear SalesVoice is a new product designed to support capture and distribution of verbal information, especially in a sales environment.

Key SalesVoice features:

  • Record in Conference mode (MP3 data in CF3 files).
  • Note-taking features with nine one-click predefined notes and the ability to enter typed notes during and after recording.
  • Record dictation and presentation tracks in WAV format.
  • Easy file editing to create recording excerpts in MP3, CF3, or WAV format.
  • Choice of boxed product with the Floating License System, or download Try-and-Buy licensing through Element 5 ecommerce.

The price for SalesVoice when purchased as a downloaded Try-and-Buy version is $99 per license. The product is also available as a boxed product on CD with multiple licenses delivered on the USB Key. Price for the two-license version is $195, the five-license version is $475.

SalesVoice replaces SoniClear RecorderPro, which is now discontinued.

Floating License System

Release 5.1 includes a new system for controlling SoniClear licenses. The design was based on feedback from customers who wanted more flexible options for installation.

An enhanced version of the SoniClear USB Key is used to deliver and manage the software license. When the user receives the software initially, the SoniClear software license is stored on the USB Key. The software can be installed on any number of computers. The SoniClear will only run when the USB Key device is plugged in with the "floating license". This mode of usage is the same as the "Roving License" option offered with Release 5.0.

The user has the option to leave the floating license stored on the USB Key, or lock the license to a specific computer. Once the license is locked, the USB Key device does not need to be plugged into the computer. This mode of usage is similar to the Release 5.0 "Single Computer License" option. Once a license has been locked to a computer it cannot be used as a floating license. The user has the option of unlocking the license from the computer at any time. Then the license reverts to floating status, so that it can be used to authorize use of the software on any machine.
